Designing Law Seek-O’s mobile app and user profile experience
PROJECT DETAILS
Product Designer (as part of Experience Haus course)
February - April 2024 (12 weeks)
The Brief
I was tasked with designing two key components for Phase 1 of Law Seek-O’s mobile app.
1: User accounts and profiles
Robust, personalised user profiles to help individuals navigate the Law Seek-O mobile app and find legal content tailored to their needs.
2: Chatbot interface
A conversational chatbot interface designed to guide users through complex legal queries with clarity and ease.

The Design Process
Throughout this project, a user-centred HCI design process was adopted, emphasising empathy for users and continually refining designs based on their feedback. Key stages included understanding user needs through research, defining the problem, generating solutions, prototyping, testing, and iterative improvement.

Competitor Analysis
Step One: Research
To start with the research, I analysed Law Seek-O’s direct competitors in the legal AI industry. Given that this is an emerging and rapidly evolving sector, I found several legal AI solutions designed for law firms and legal professionals but only a handful of user based solutions aimed at individuals with legal queries.
User Research
Law Seek-O's initial target market includes the creative industry (artists, writers, theater professionals, and production houses), the sports industry (athletes, agents, and students), as well as startups and SMEs. With this focus, I conducted a screener survey and interviewed four users from these industries. The primary objective of these interviews was to explore how legal information can be made more accessible, identify key barriers to obtaining effective legal assistance, and understand the factors that contribute to users perceiving legal information as credible.
“A conversational interface would help digest legal information more easily.”
“Having a short summary upfront and detailed information after allowing quick decision making.”
“The format of legal documents plays a role in perceived credibility”
“A chat function for real-time clarification as I navigate through legal documents would be helpful.”
“It’s difficult to understand legal information, especially without specialised counsel.”
“Explaining legal information in layman's terms and succinct language is crucial for my understanding.”
User Stories
Step Two: Define
The research uncovered that many users were confused about their legal options and lacked the tools or confidence to make meaningful decisions. Specifically, users expressed a need for summarised, easily digestible information that would help them with their legal queries without being overwhelmed. Building on the research phase, I leveraged the insights gathered to refine the focus into three user stories, each outlining the end user’s desired outcomes.
-
As a small business owner, I would like to clearly understand the legal matter at hand so that I can be as informed as possible before making any critical personal or business related decisions.
-
As a small business owner, I would like to be able to exhaust all other forms of assistance before seeking professional services so that I can minimise or save on lawyer fees.
-
As a small business owner, I would like to receive quick responses to my legal queries so that I can deal with legal matters promptly and efficiently.
Persona
A primary persona was developed to capture the user’s needs, goals, and pain points, serving as a guiding reference throughout the design phase. This approach helped refine solutions, enhance usability, and uncover new opportunities for innovation.

Low Fidelity Wireframes
Step Three: Ideate
The following low-fidelity wireframes capture two core components designed for Law Seek-O’s mobile app: a conversational chatbot interface that supports users through complex legal queries and a user profile that help individuals navigate their active requests and access legal content tailored to their needs. These initial designs for the home, chat, and profile screens focus on establishing the foundational layout, navigation flow, and key interactions before progressing to high-fidelity prototypes.
Usability Testing
Step Four: Test
The prototype was tested with four users, focusing on two key tasks: uploading a document onto their profile and finding a common legal query relating to disputes with a client.
While users successfully uploaded documents onto their profiles without difficulty, they found that accessing common queries involved too many steps. Two participants recommended featuring common prompts directly on the home screen to make the process more efficient and user-friendly. As a result, common prompt categories were added to the home page, allowing users to quickly navigate to relevant legal topics and access information with fewer clicks.
The success of this project was driven by an iterative design process, where continuous user feedback shaped both the content and user experience. This led to a user experience that empowers users to confidently manage their legal matters – making the process not only easy and engaging but, most importantly, effective.
